The meaning of the word “vintage” is simply “of age,” making it more difficult to set a specific age requirement. However, many say vintage items are at least 25 years old. So, generally speaking, something can be considered vintage if its a score and beyond old. But what does vintage mean in fashion? Well, in regard to fashion it refers to clothes that were created in a previous era. A vintage piece of clothing is a highly appreciated item today due to its uniqueness, style, and timelessness.

Aso-Oke, a prestigious hand-woven cloth created by the Yoruba people of West Africa. Aso oke means “top cloth” in the English language, denoting a cloth of high status. Now this vintage piece of fabric from my mums wardrobe collection has given an uplift to an entire outfit of my recent design. But there’s a backstory first. This aso-oke is at least 20years years, which categorizes it in the vintage section. It belonged to my mother tucked in a box in the upper part of the closet. The day came I stumbled upon it and realized it was love at sight.

I was already appreciative of such vibrant colors, especially for dark skin like mine, but I had nowhere to wear it to, and no outfit did it justice. Secretly I wanted to use it for my own wedding or any special day of mine. My brother’s day came, I was really excited because it was my day to celebrate both his day and show off my mother’s vintage aso-oke.

Why did I love it so? I’ve never seen any aso-oke like that in my life til date, it’s the only one I know. Pearls on the Scene is known for being unique. This is one of its collections.

Couldn’t believe it when one of Abuja Female leading photographers @eeexasviewphotography asked that I have a session with the same outfit as she saw on Instagram (she wanted to try her new backdrop) Sigh! I knew it was a great style I conjured up. I was happy. It won’t be the first time working with Eeexa, but excited I was, like it was the first time.
