Ryan Murphys Series Hollywood, which premiered on Netflix 2020, 1st March, stars Patti LuPone, Holland Taylor, David Corenswet, Darren Criss, and Laura Harrier. Other cast members include Jeremy Pope, Mira Sorvino, and Samara Weaving. The story takes place in the 1940s, the golden age of Tinseltown, where dreamers came to try and be famous in the movies. It was the era of Hepburn and Vivien Leigh. It was also the era that a Hollywood-branded version of glamour was born, not only a revolutionary and idyllic take on the film industry, but also it served as fashion show. Every outfit is meant to be savored, like elegant exuberance of Avis Amberg‘s (Patti Lupon) wealthy-housewife wardrobe. Avis captured attention when she pulled up to dreamland path on her first appearance.
Hubba hubbaHer style was very glamor Hollywood day and night. Casual wears down to her night wears. As a fashion enthusiasts, you Iive and breathe her set customes. She had the best for pearls on the scene . No youngins could catch up, just like Old money baby.
Eventually we start to see the men dressed sleekly especially in earlier scenes with the crisp white shirts seen on the service boys paired with contrasting pitch-black high-waisted trousers and a gold hat.
It was as if they were in character or auditioning constantly on the go.
There was a focus on the older women’s fashion but Avis was dressed to stand out, which she carried on so well. Accessories flowed from scene to scene. Her nightwear scenes are a particular favorite. Screams “i like myself when I’m alone”
And who doesn’t love a good sweeping gown worn in the middle of the day by a wealthy woman? All this was possible because of 2 wonen. It’s with the help of people like Lou Eyrich and Sarah Evelyn, the show’s costume designers that we, the fashion people were eager to stay focused on screen, so we don’t miss any detail.
