Simplicity at Gatefield Press Freedom Mixer.

Press freedom day!

Power to the pen. Power to the people. Power to knowledge. Power to those who seek knowledge.

So press freedom held on the 3rd of May, 2024. Gatefield decided to do something awesome for people of the press. Gatefield is an international public strategy firm that positively focuses on change in the Sub Sharan African nation.

At the open house event, there were talks about press freedom, journalism generally, how to curb fake news, security breech, government protection and support. Of course networking was part of the day schedule.

Joy, Chidera, and Maryam connecting.

Ask yourself: What does press freedom mean to me as a writer in such space?

Anyways, met with familiar faces and new faces, but what the focus was for Pearls On The Scene was the fashion exhibited in such space. Simple expression in fashion. It was not surprising as these were people who had the freedom to express themselves on paper, why not in fashion?

So Pearls On The Scene will highlight a bit of simple light fashion at Gatefield.

1. First, we have Zubaida Ibrahim, a great journalist in the field for about a decade and counting. Zaubaida’s work has been recognized with some amazing honors, including the 2023 Report Women Fellowship by the Wole Soyinka Center for Investigative Journalism, The New Humanitarian’s first Reporting Fellowship, and being longlisted for the 2024 One World Media Award.

Here she is wearing an atampa gown paired with a Chantelle veil and simple silver jewelry set. What made her stand out? Definitely the color choice and combination, simplicity, and her smooth makeup free face. What’s the skin routine, sis?

2. Solape had a black midi after dress, but what was noticeable was the cream mules with shimmering effect and a perfect bow she paired it with. It looks chic and comfortable for any press work, if we may add.

3. The media girlies of gatefield and marieclaire. Chidera Muoka and Maryam Ahmed. Chidera is an Editir in Chief for Marie Claire.ng. She chaired the panel discussion for the day. So, the common thing here is the fabric used loosely on their bodies. The pants worn by Chidera is a must-have pants in your closet for days when you want to be stylish yet simple and comfortable. Maryam currently serves as the Senior Associate (Communications, Campaigns, and Partnerships) at Gatefield, where she combines her expertise to drive impactful initiatives and campaigns. Maryam’s interests include literature, sustainable development goals, the digital economy, and African culture as seen on wardrobe choice of the day with this African print.

An eye-catching contrasted wardrobe.
Marieyam Dee and her mirror obsession.

4. Someone smells so good I’m following the person home. That was a statement made by an admirer when Uluma sat with the cool kids. This is Uloma who advocates for women and girls, a feminist who refuses to be silenced. Here, she is framed with her bubu like shirt by dye lab. Worn with flare black pants. Makes the outfit wholesome with compliments of minimal accessorizing and a peep of red colored bag.

Uluma, a media personnel.

Fun fact: Uluma used to work with Genevieve magazine, a Nigerian leading lifestyle magazine founded by Betty Irabor. It was exciting knowing someone contributed to one of our favorite things in the early 2000s.

6. Simplicity is the order of the day with Blessing “Mamms” Tarfa. Blessing Tarfa is the founder of Play.Ed, a limited liability company, catering to kids’ education and evolvement. Blessing has quite a lot under her belt, we need an entire post for her.

See as she simply wears a long silk buttoned gown by Asmau Gurin, an RTW fashion brand for comfort clothing. The collar, slightly puffed up sleeves, and an opportunity to tie a cute bow at will makes you feel simply fancy already.

7. To show up is to show off for Editor In Chief of Pearlsonthescene.photo.blog magazine. Half a bubu over a mia plouffe pant and white bag and an Aldo shoe to complete the look was the order of styling for the day. What was the inspiration behind this look? Well, the heat, so she had to go for something light yet classy.

Got Nelson Edada (Bome_art), a certified global all-round artist, to illustrate such beauty in a cartoon caricature way because, in the famous word of Chiomagoodhair, we don’t do basic over here.

Art by bome_art.

If the theme was simplicity, we’d say the girlies understood the assignment. Without further a do, signing out peacefully.

Cheers to the soft life 🥂
