The classic sweater—once purely about protection—is trending again, and it’s being made from softer, lighter, colorful fabrics, in sleeveless, full sleeves, or half sleeves.
“One minute you’re you, a regular person, the next minute you’ve given off “the guy she told you not to worry about” energy.“
–GQ

The turtleneck represents so much in the fashion world that it has its own multiple personalities like being intellectual and creative prowess to being serious and simply modest. For some shy vanillas, the turtleneck’s intensity is quite overwhelming. It’s been associated with too serious, too sophisticated, too “I’m rich and important”—just too damn much, period. But then we ask, “Since when has looking serious or absurdly wealthy been a bad thing?” No one is saying you need to wear it with a fur coat or a 2-piece suit.

From a perspective, turtleneck is a good representation of control over one’s own body. It covers so much of the chest and neck that it creates a visual void. With off shoulders, round neck, v neck, or any regular and out of the box outfit, turtlenecks blend in like a second skin with maximum coverage.

You see, since including turtleneck as wardeobe essential, so many styles have been birthed that one can repeat an outfit, and it just goes over the outfit rememberers head (Lizze Mcguire reference)! It can be freely used with gowns, shirts, traditional attire, bubus, jeans, sheer materials, Abayas, on its own… so many things, you just have to be willing to explore.

“I dont remember when I switched to turtleneck necks as my base styling, but if it’s a phase, I want it to be for a long time.”

Apparently, one can buy just the turtleneck collar off of Amazon, and no one will know the difference. But darling pearls, this is what we are not going to be doing. Get a full turtle neck top or let it be.
